CONVICTED FELON PAVLO TO JOIN CEOs, AUTHORS AND ADVISORS AT LAVA CONFERENCE IN APRIL
LOS ANGELES –Walt Pavlo, who served jail time in connection with the MCI/WorldCom scandal, is one unique highlight of a packed roster of speakers and panelists to be featured at the Los Angeles Venture Association’s Investment Capital Conference on April 11 in Los Angeles. Previously announced keynoters Salman Ullah and Sean Dempsey of Google Inc. and morning speaker Jim Flanigan of the New York Times will be joined by a diverse group of investors, CEOs, authors and investment advisors as the conference presents two tracks of panels throughout the morning and early afternoon. The Money Track will feature four panels on financing various stages of company growth. Speakers and moderators will include:
· Mark Jensen, National Director Venture Capital Services, Deloitte · Scott Kolbrenner, Senior VP, Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin · Ken Aldrich, Managing Director, Convergent Ventures; Chairman, International Stem Cell Corp. · Deborah Larrison, Managing Director, Citigroup Capital · Jesus Arguelles, Investment Officer, CalPERS · Frank J. Sansone, CFO, Guidance Software · Charlie Call, CEO, Catalytic Solutions · Kendall Raine, Managing Director, AG Edwards · Jeff Weiner, Partner, DLA Piper · Mike Balkin, Chief Investment Officer, Magnetar Capital · Jay Ferguson, Partner, Kline Hawkes · John Iino, Partner, ReedSmith · Jeff Elder, CEO, Trojan Battery · Scott Hodgkins, Partner, Latham & Watkins · Stephen Watkins, Managing Director, Arcturus Capital · Frank Mottek, “Business Hour” host, KNX-1070
The Leadership Track will feature three panels on building a leadership team to drive growth and attract investors, and one on business ethics. The latter will feature a discussion between Pavlo and Forbes Senior Editor Neil Weinberg. Pavlo will relate how he became embroiled in one of the biggest corporate scandals while an MCI senior manager. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud and money laundering and served 46 months in prison. He will warn businesspeople faced with ethical decisions that even one small step across the line of honesty can lead to dire consequences. The other panels will feature:
· Jim Drury, CEO, JimDrury Partners · Carmine Gallo, Coach/Author/Speaker · Steward Alsop, Alsop Louie Partners · John Wasley, Heidrick & Struggles · Jeff Stibel, CEO, Web.com · Ted Alexander, Managing Partner, Mission Ventures · David Cremin, Managing Director, DFJ Frontier Fund · Caroline Nahas, Managing Director, Korn/Ferry International · Ralph Ward, Editor, The Corporate Board magazine · Scott Jarus, CEO, Cognition · Greg Martin, Partner, RedPoint
“We are very excited to have this top-tier lineup,” said Conference Co-Chair Nevin Sanli. “These speakers and panelists will provide unique insights into building and financing companies from startup through exit -- insights that are available nowhere else.” “The Investment Capital Conference is dedicated to providing investors and executives top value in terms of information and contacts in return for their time investment in attendance,” said Conference Co-Chair Dennis McCarthy. “This year’s speakers and panelists are a reflection of that commitment.” The LAVA Investment Capital ConferenceSM is one of the premier annual business events on the West Coast. This year, it will be held April 11, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The conference provides an ideal shared experience for senior executives, entrepreneurs, board members, capital sources, and key advisors. It features a day-long program of top-level panels and speakers exploring what investors are looking for, how companies can make themselves more attractive to investors, and where companies can find capital at each stage in their growth. The event is capped in the afternoon by The Capital ZoneTM in which executives and capital providers mix freely to make connections and explore opportunities.
